Here Are A Couple of Quotes That Kept Us Going

Hi Guys!
As you all know (if you are following us on Twitter... @huhblog), Pete Canalichio (@PeteCanalichio) took our "Huh?!" Brand to the International Licensing Expo, where he made some very promising and exciting contacts. With any luck, "Huh?!" will soon find itself hanging in closets everywhere. After all the years of hard work we have put in between "Huh?!" Blog and "Huh?!" Brand, we are days away from a big breakthrough. We will keep you informed, and we thank all the people who have helped and supported us along the way.
It has not been easy. We have tried many paths, and have changed many tactics as we tried to launch "Huh?!" as a national brand. Thousands of dollars spent, many books read, a college degree earned, many pieces of art created, and countless sleepless nights. We know the meaning of sacrifice.
We've tried many different entrepreneurial pursuits along the way, but this time is different. This time, WE were different. We will explain more later, but here are a couple of quotes that explain our mindset and our unrelenting drive to make "Huh?!" work. We are close, and we will give you as many tools as we possibly can so that you can become the success that lives inside you as well. Thanks, and good luck.

Hank

He who is silent is forgotten; he who does not advance falls back; he who stops is overwhelmed; out distanced, crushed; he who ceases to grow becomes smaller; he who leaves off, gives up; the condition of standing still is the beginning of the end.
-Henri Frederic Amiel

No one ever attains very eminent success by simply doing what is required of him; it is the amount and excellence of what is over and above the required that determines the greatness of ultimate distinction.
Charles Kendall Adams

The great successful men of the world have used their imagination, they think ahead and create their mental picture in all its details, filling in here, adding a little there, altering this a bit and that a bit, but steadily building – steadily building.
Robert Collier

We Finally Did It... Now The Real Work Starts!

Hi Everyone!
Just a quick one this time. Tonight might be the last sleep that I get for a while, but right now, I FEEL GREAT! I have been a serial entrepreneur my whole life. I have always hated the idea of a 9-5, corporate, working-for-the-man type of existence. As such, I have tried almost as many things as Thomas Edison (to varying degrees of success). But THIS! This is AMAZING!
I have been totally driven to make "Huh?!" work. I have read everything that I could get my hands on, and I have gotten as much advice from successful people as I could. I even went back to college to get my business degree (3.8 G.P.A., Baby!). I have been more dedicated to making "Huh?!" work than I have been to anything in my life. And as it turns out, it has to be that way. Huh?! Blog and Huh?! Brand had a great time at the International Licensing Expo, and pretty soon, EVERYONE will be wearing our trademarked "Huh?!" clothing. Thanks to Pete and Priyanka, Professor Ben, and some great entrepreneurs whose books have been invaluable in keeping me on the right path (most recently, One Simple Idea by Licensing Guru Stephen Key and The Brand Within by Shark Tank host and FUBU founder Daymond John) .
In closing, I just want to say thanks for following Huh?! Blog (huhblog.com), and for allowing Huh?! into your home. This is just the beginning!

Are YOU Still Working On Your "Thing"?

Hi Everyone!
I know that it’s been a while since I’ve posted here on “Huh?!” Blog, but I have been working on positioning “Huh?!” Brand for the International Licensing Expo in Las Vegas (June 14-16). I have been working with my artist on new designs, getting sample shirts made, putting together my marketing plan, writing copy, designing our sell sheet, and working my day job. I am also reading two books (One Simple Idea by Licensing Guru Stephen Key and The Brand Within by Shark Tank denizen Daymond John, both great and USEFUL books). I even recently found Mark Cuban’s Blog Maverick (http://blogmaverick.com/ … Go Mavs!).
As you can already guess, I am flipping exhausted! I haven’t had a full night’s sleep in quite a while, but passion keeps me going. I have read  literally volumes of information, and I am finding strength in the fact that I have lots in common with these successful entrepreneurs: the drive to be my own man, to find a different way, to do whatever is necessary, and to do the best job that I possibly could at whatever I do. Reputation is everything: if you don’t have a reputation for excellence, you won’t be able to build and sustain the relationships you need to reach the heights to which you are driven to arrive.
Right now, “Huh?!” Blog and “Huh?!” Brand licensing agent Pete Canalichio is networking at the International Licensing Expo, trying to get us a deal with a cutting edge clothing manufacturer (or any other dynamic outlet for the Huh?! Brand).  Even now, I am scanning the web and following Twitter to get up to the moment updates which I can pass on to Pete so that I can let him know where the decision makers are (we are still trying to hook up with Daymond John, and several others).

I know that “Huh?!” is going to be huge. It is not just a feeling. I have consumed way too much information (how-to-and-who-did-what-when?) so that I could make the right decisions and hook up with the right people to make the “Huh?!” Brand a household name. Believe me, IT IS GOING TO HAPPEN! What I am telling you is the reason that “Huh?!” Blog came into existence: I wanted to share the information that I have discovered on my way to making “Huh?!” Brand work… so that you could more readily find your path, your raison d’ĂȘtre.

I don’t know what is going to happen over the next few days at the International Licensing Expo (I know Pete will give it his best shot), but I do know that “Huh?!” will find itself into a lot of closets, and magazines, and onto a lot of televisions. I encourage you to find your passion and make yours work for you. Life is too short not to find your “thing”. And we at “Huh?!” blog will continue to amass as much information and inspiration here to help you along your way. Thanks, good luck, and check back. You won’t be sorry...

Hank

PS… Check out Mark Cuban’s Blog Maverick. When he started talking about how he had a knack for combining information in ways that people hadn’t thought of before, I felt that I had found a kindred spirit. This is a special talent of mine, too. And "How I Made My Millions" is great as well.

Oh, and check out a closer look at the "Huh?!" sell sheet that I spent so much time on as well. Thanks! http://bit.ly/kHCEN7

Great Stories Come From Great Beginnings!

Hi Everyone! As you know, here at Huh?! Blog, we have been working hard to launch our trademarked “Huh?!”  brand. We believe in learning cool new things, exploring cool new places, and having fun. Especially if that new experience is so much fun that you shock yourself out of your routine.

That is what the “Huh?!” line is all about. Everybody gets in a rut sometimes. The “Huh?!” brand reminds you to try new things, explore new places, create new ways to have fun, and to pay attention to the wondrous world around you. “Huh?!” is the reaction that people have when they venture down the road less traveled. “Huh?!” Is The Difference Between Ordinary And Extraordinary! “Huh?!” Is The Cure For Boredom, Cause You Can’t Be Bored and Say “Huh?!” At The Same Time!

It dawned on me that I am a perfect example of the "Huh?!" philosophy of "trying new things, explore new places, and create new ways to have fun." I was in a rut, so I decided to get that job on a cruise ship in Hawaii. That decision to radically change my environment led directly to my inspiration to create the "Huh?!" brand:

“After a long, challenging evening caring for guests at a high end resort venue in Hawaii, I encountered some difficult situations where some impossible tasks were asked of me. I did all that I could to accommodate my demanding guests. However, in my head, frustration brought choruses of “Huh?!™” screaming into my thoughts.”
“While I solved most of the dilemmas, when sleep finally came, my mind could not let go of the frustration that I had been feeling all night.  My dreams that night were equally funny and unnerving. I had work dreams; one lady asked for a dodo egg omelet (dodos became extinct in the 1600’s), and another lady demanded ‘real’ Buffalo wings (AAARGH!!).”

“After stifling about a million “Huh?!™”’s in my dream, I woke up laughing, actually uttering the word “Huh?!™”. It was then that I thought about how many people must be similarly challenged everyday, and that “Huh?!™” would look really good on hats, shirts, shoes, and other personal items (Yeah I know...random). So I got out of bed, picked up my credit card, and went online to Legal Zoom and Go Daddy to buy 3 domain names, to set up my company, and to trademark my brand (at 3:00am in the morning, on a cruise ship, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean!). Besides, now I own the rights to the word “huh?!” in a country where everyone says “huh?!” Perfect.”

We want for the "Huh?!" brand to be your partner in fun, exploration, laughter and enjoyment. That is our wish every time someone pulls on a shirt, hat, or a pair of shoes with that face on the front. Check out our early “Huh?!” art on Twitter and TwitPic. We’d love to hear what you think! Send us a tweet or e-mail us at huhblog@gmail.com. Thanks!

It Ain't About Getting All You Want...Hank & Jan Wilhelm

Hi Everybody!
Here's hoping that we are continuing with the whole "Huh?!" theme of getting the most out of our time on this beautiful blue marble. I have been juggling several worthwhile pursuits recently (some of which will be revealed to you all very soon, thanks to my agent Pete over at brandlicensingexpert.com- THE BEST!).

As many people are aware, I have always been a huge pop culture buff. From comic books to music to movies, if anyone wanted to know anything, I am the guy to ask. I was recently talking to a friend of mine about movies when the subject of the inordinate amount of "reboots" came up. From British spies to wall climbing heroes to people who trek the stars, studios have all decided to retreat to the original source material in order to seek out fresh and exciting new directions.

This trend could also be used in the area of life management. Consider: daily living has become more and more complicated, with greater responsibilities added as society becomes more competitive. In much the same way that objects whiz by the windows of speeding cars as indistinguishable blurs, simple pleasures can be missed on the way to imagined greater rewards.

I have met many people in my life, some successful, some less so. One very interesting point that I have seen is the aftermath of people who were so focused on their destination that they paid absolutely no attention to the beauty of their journey. For example, imagine that you spend their whole life trying to become an accountant, ignoring friends, dates, family, and special events. Study, study, study. Work, work, work. After becoming that businessman, you then realize that you hate the job. The very next logical thought is of all the things that you might have missed out on while you were trying to become that businessman. This resentment and disillusionment might even be the catalyst for a long spiral of depression and self-destructive behavior, all of which might have been avoided if you stopped every once in a while to enjoy your life and the beautiful things in it (Find some balance, folks!).

This is just an example (the profession could have been any profession or undertaking), and some people may be able to adapt to their unsatisfying situation. It just makes more sense that one must learn to appreciate the less exotic experiences as he or she reaches for the fruit at the top of the tree. Thanks for visiting, enjoy the following article written by Jan Wilhelm, and please check out the whole Huh?! Blog site. (the videos are great!). Now, work hard, work smart, follow your heart, and squeeze in as much fun as you can!

Hank

Enjoy The Simple Things
By: Jan Wilhelm | Posted: Sep 18, 2005
Always having been a budget conscious person (well, some have called me a tight-wad), I know all about the simple pleasures. Sure it would be great to take long cruises, go to any event I wanted, buy anything I wanted --- WAKE UP! Unless you are a multi-millionaire, you can't do all that. It definitely doesn't fit in my budget.

Instead of being negative because you are "deprived", think of what you can do. Take a walk on a bright, sunny day. Notice the flowers. Notice the trees. Don't just notice the other walkers. SMILE and say "hi" to them. Enjoy the benefits of exercise. You will feel better. It will help you get in better shape. Get out there and move. And, guess what, it doesn't cost anything. It is absolutely FREE.

Here is another very rewarding thing to do. Volunteer at a child's school. Offer to tutor a neighborhood child. There is nothing like the pleasure that comes from teaching a child. Other places to help out kids are: Boys and Girls Club, any programs for troubled youth, any youth recreational leagues. If you have a special talent (art, singing, writing) ask at the local middle and high school if there is any way you can help. Help the kids. Doesn't cost you anything, but how rewarding it is!

At the other end of the age range are senior citizens. Many can certainly benefit from more attention. Many assisted living facilities will allow volunteers to come in. You don't need any special abilities....except the ability to listen. Having someone to talk to can be the highlight of their day. I hope this short article will make you stop and think. Don't be negative because you cannot have all the things you want. Enjoy life! Share with Others. Help Others. You will be rewarded.

*%$# Procrastination!

Hi everyone, and Happy Holidays from everyone at Huh?! Blog. We’ve experienced lots of changes and growth in the last three years, and we feel that we are finally on the right path. We have amassed lots of useful information, have reached lots of people (thanks to Facebook and Twitter!), and with the amazing million-dollar agent with whom we are negotiating (Pete from http://www.brandlicensingexpert.com ), 2011 will put my “Huh?!” trademark in front of millions of people around the world.

It has not been an easy journey. This past year, I’ve personally lost some people I didn’t expect to lose, I’ve gained some people whose importance I wasn’t wise enough to understand, and I learned some lessons that made my vision (and my understanding of it) much clearer. It was made much more vivid to me that the future unfolds in many unexpected ways, and that our time is much shorter than it seems. I’ve had to learn to grieve (which has been why there have been fewer articles recently than I planned on huhblog.com), and I learned that there are two irrefutable constants in life: your time here (in this life) is indefinable, and you have to demonstrably appreciate each triumph, gift and blessing you accrue. Please allow me to explain.

I am a rational, reasonable man. I believe in science, math, and any things that can be proven. I believe that the sky looks blue, that fire is hot, and that dinosaurs are part of the reason that my car moves when I press on the accelerator. I also believe in magic. Not the “abracadabra-here-is-the-rabbit” kind of magic, but the “Wow, how/why-did-that-happen?” kind of magic. I truly believe that no matter how advanced we become, there are certain things that we cannot understand because Our Beneficent Father (the name that I use to personify the mechanism that led to our existence) does not want for us to become jaded. This is a great idea, because I believe that he knows us even better than we know ourselves: we do have an amazing tendency to take things for granted after they become part of our norm-see I-Pod:20,000 songs hanging on your belt is a miracle if you used to listen to records!

Why would a so-called “believer in the scientific method” put so much “faith” in something that cannot be proven? Because I recognize the need that we all have to do just that. Think about it. Since we were children progressing into adulthood, we have had one “sacred” magical figure after another stripped away from us. Tooth Fairy? DEBUNKED! Easter Bunny? TRASHED! Santa…? And what have we replaced these beloved icons with? Drugs, drink, and disillusionment! It is very true that trauma experienced in childhood has a profound effect on adulthood. This lack of things to believe in, I believe, is one of the very reasons that there is such a growing tide of misery today.

Think about it. People go to work, (giving their best to some impersonal corporate entity which ultimately cares only about its own continued existence- it’s not like the old days, folks!), come home, plop themselves in front of the TV, consume some non-descript meal, and struggle to convey the disillusionment that overwhelms them to a family who is so needy themselves that they cannot hear the urgent pleas for understanding being sent their way. To be completely honest, if everyone in the world stopped talking (and stopped trying to get everyone else to listen), there would still be one almost universal query: “IS THIS ALL THERE IS?!”

I hate to say it, but I’ve heard the same message many ways (especially recently). Consider the recent economic calamity. Millions of people are out of work, people who are still working are working twice as hard for less pay, and the people who are unemployed are looked upon as pariahs who should just “suck it up” and tell their kids that Santa brought coal so that they wouldn’t be cold during the winter (I saw a pundit on CNN subtly suggest such a thing- jerk!).

Now that you understand what I mean, we can get back to the two earlier constants: your time here (in this life) is indefinable, and you have to demonstrably appreciate each triumph, gift and blessing you accrue. First, there is no way for anyone to know how long that anyone is going to be a member of the “Oxygen Habit Club”. We know our life expectancies (74 males, 80 females- Ladies, give us a break!J). With this in mind, everyone should do their best to make their mark as early and as definitively as possible. “Procrastination” should be as taboo as any four-letter word, and one’s pursuit of self-fulfillment should be regarded as highly as military service. Can you imagine how beautiful the world would be if it had the advantage of more people who actually realized that “time waits for no one”? We could have accomplished so many more things (or at least we would have much more understanding). And, we would have the added benefit of being able to enjoy our accomplishments for a longer period of time. Wouldn’t you rather have your Ferrari at 30 than at 70? Think about it.

Second, one should learn to appreciate our little Easter eggs when we find them. I’ve met people in my life that seemingly have the world at their feet. Money, companionship, freedom, and many other of the trappings of success are stepped over and ignored, regarded as mere inconveniences that block their path on their way to that bigger, better deal. People like this are so busy trying to get to their next destination, that they miss out on the joys that they can experience from the journey itself! If you were traveling to California, wouldn’t your trip be more memorable if you stopped by the Grand Canyon or the Rocky Mountains as well? It seems to me that the person who amasses the best stories and memories has spent his years most wisely. And it is very difficult to be miserable when your head is filled with wonderful events and episodes.

So with the approaching New Year, we here at Huh?! Blog challenge you to go out, break the monotony, and make yourself some great memories! It doesn’t have to be anything  monumental at the beginning; it could even be something as simple as a trip to the museum or aquarium. Whatever it is you choose to do… DO IT! Soak up every color, smell, and impression. I truly believe that life is meant to be experienced, not endured. Make yours matter! Then in 2011, come back to Huh?! Blog, and tell us all about it. We’ll be waiting…

P.S. Start by appreciating something simple, like flowers or music or time spent with family and friends. You don’t have to be paid like Diddy to enjoy life… but that would be nice…

The Secret Of Celebrity Success by Silveral

(While I was doing some research for the "Huh?!" inspiration project, I found this article, which will be of particular to all my great creative friends on Twitter. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Enjoy!- Hank)

Who do you admire? Why does the world take notice of them and not us? Do they have a common way to become a winner in their field? If so then what is the secret formula?

Purpose

Winning celebrities all have a clear vision a guiding purpose a light at the end of their tunnel that keeps them going day after day on their path. These celebrities get what they want because they know exactly what they want. They can feel and sense it, they experience it in their minds and their hearts. They can see it in their minds eye and describe it as if it were there already there. Conversely most of us think that we will be laughed at, if we talk about what we want, we become afraid of looking foolish and stupid, instead we dare not to dream! Try to take a risk today and dream of your North Star, let it guide you on your path.

Core

Celebrity Winners have another big secret. They surround themselves with winners. They find people that want them to win. They know that if you surround yourself with a core of talent then that talent can be focused. Top Celebrities find and develop a team to help them, a human ship with the celebrity at the helm. Winning celebrities acknowledge that cannot do everything themselves so they find and complement their talents with a good team to help move them on. They find team members who are successful in their own fields. Such a team may consist of , accountants, lawyers, publicist, and managers, make up artists, writers, producers and fitness/life coaches.

Aims for Life

Just like a business has a business plan, winning celebrities have a clear plan that they follow. They know what to do and when to do it with uncanny timing. However, they do this because it is in their plan. They are implementing this plan day after day. It may not be as formulaic at a timeline or a map but their own life plans works just as well for them. It shows the steps they have to take on life's journey to get them to their destination. Such a plan may be drawn up with the team supporting the celebrity. Each plan starts out small with baby steps. This ensures early success.

As the celebrity becomes accustomed to their map and the steps, then more momentum is built up. This plan is nearly always written down. You often see these winners carrying a diary or a some sort or a flow chart that shows them were they are on their journey in life. I am not suggesting that you create a business plan for your life but rather create a written strategy that keeps you on your path and prevents you taking detours. With such a plan in place it is a case of following the plan and taking one planed step at a time.

Priorities and Goals

With a plan in place winning celebrities often organize themselves with hierarchical things to do. They are the type of people that get organized and have a sense of what has to be done first. They have a knack of knowing what is important and what is fluff. If a higher priority is being ignored they can drop everything a allocate their resources to priority one. Priority two, three and four are put to one side for later attention. If they find they are distracted with meaningless unimportant work they will stop what they are doing and get back to their top priority and get back to the plan and work on that priority and nothing else. Sometimes an even higher priority takes over e.g. your child gets sick at school, or you are suddenly involved in some sort of emergency on the highway. These things happen and winning celebrities deal with them quickly and efficiently. They then get back to their highest priority on their plan.

Reality

Winning Celebrities do not have room in their lives for denial, fitful fancies or fiction. They often deal with life like a child, in the moment, dealing with life as it comes day to day. Rather than setting themselves up for a fall by deluding themselves with impossible dreams they rely on what is do-able, and ignore what in not. When criticized as we all are they do not become defensible rather they absorb the input and feedback and treat it not as an attack on them but as away to improve. At the same time they are able to distinguish what feedback is useful and what is trash. Winning Celebrities know what they can do and what they cannot do because they remain truthful to themselves. No kidding and accepting impossible challenges. They just do their thing to the best of their ability. Their attitude is if I know the problems, then I can plan to deal with them.

Flexibility

Celebrities who consistently win sometimes take what I call missteps. Not mistakes but missteps. Just like a marathon runner who takes a wrong turn, winning celebrities acknowledge the error and self correct to get back on track. They do not waste time saying that they are a failure and get all upset about the misstep. Instead they get on with fixing the mistake, or misstep. These winning celebrities like the marathon runner who takes a misstep and goes the wrong way, they just let it go and carry on, getting back on track in the right direction. One step at a time. If they their path is blocked then like a marathathon runner who has come up against a hole in the ground, then they find a new path around the problem and carry on.

Zeal

Winning celebrities who play to win always have a deep passion about what they are doing. Once focused they become excited about what they are doing. They get energized and eager to get on with taking the steps of their chosen path. To them it is the pursuit of the chosen goal that excites them. It does not become a job or another day at work it becomes their very existence. They are having fun. They can't wait to get to work the next day for this is who they are, this is what they are, and this is them. They love what they do and do what they love. They have a purpose, a passion a dream that they are living one step at a time day by day.

Chance

Celebrities are consistent winners who are willing to take risks. Do not misunderstand, this does not mean that they are foolhardy and reckless. This means that they take calculated risks. They go out of their comfort zone in order to succeed at new challenges. They take the plunge into the unknown. They leave behind the safe world of mundane existence and venture forth as pioneers in their field. They are they explores of life trying out new things. They find new ways to do what has been done before. They realize that people become legacy bound. "It's they way we have always operated our business" someone might say. A winning celebrity will answer. Can we do this any other way? Can we do the opposite? Can we change? They go against the crowd mentality, for that is where no one has been before.

Warren Buffet made his fortune by daring to invest his money when others were fleeing the markets, he bought when prices were low. He knew prices would come back someday and he was rewarded for the risk he took. Likewise J.K. Rowling dared to write seven books about a child wizard, not one book like others would have done but seven books. The result was that Book publishers fought over this unknown authoress who scribbled in a cafe. Who could have thought that a totally unknown stranger could write a play script for a violent film and then make and star in it himself. Sylvester Stalone did just that when he wrote the script for Rocky. All of these celebrities have dared to take risks others would shy away from, they stepped out of the comfort zone and became winners as a result.

Achievement

Winning Celebrities always take action. Because these people are not afraid of risk and because they have a do-able plan they are certain of their path. How many of us procrastinate and talk of what could be done. Winning celebrities get on because they do not procrastinate, they are just working their plan and prioritizing. Just like the Nike slogan, they "Just do it". The action that they take is not one off. Instead it is consistent and relentless, day in day out. They remain focused even if their initial actions fail to get results. This is because they know that in society rewards are not given up lightly.

The winning celebrities mantra is if one action does the job great, but if it takes ten actions then fair enough. How many of us believe in the once in a lifetime action to fix all our woes. The Beatles did not write hit song after hit song as many people believe, instead between the band members, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Star and George Harrison they wrote and recorded almost 365 songs. Not 20-30 top ten hits as most people believe. The Beatles new they would be successful if they just kept on schedule.

In fact Paul McCartney kept a daily journal; in which he would write down what he was going to do that day. This was on top of all the other stuff like concerts and sound recordings. The work ethic was relentless, the rest is history.

Self Ruling

Winning celebrities know that the most important resource they have is themselves. Winning celebrities actively manage their physical, emotional, and mental well-being as they know how important such things are. They keep their life in balance, not becoming workaholics. They keep themselves from burnout as much as they can. The ones who do not are the ones who fall by the wayside and become another has been. Although I've said they all have an important passion that drives them on they also know how to keep this life passion in check.

Winning celebrities will not languish in a job that is dead end, or stay in a sick and draining relationship. They take care of number one first, because it is they who are the one who gets the results they desire. They only get such results if they are complete in health both mentally and physically, not high on drugs or alcohol because they worked themselves into the ground. How many sixty year olds can run around a stage like Mick Jagger if they are not fit?

Conclusions

All of these qualities sound too much to some then tough. If you are one of those people who just gives up then I'm sorry you just will not amount to much in life. You are driftwood a loss going with the flow. If this sounds uncomfortable then that is great because you have just taken the first step and acknowledged your anger and realized you can be better. The great thing is that we all can have these winning strategies if we take the time to understand hoe to apply them to our own life. We to can become winners within our own field of expertise.

Celebrities are just like you and me they do not have a monopoly on life skills nor do you. The very same skills can be found all around us. Try looking at school teachers, doctors, community workers and the countless others that do their thing. Following their chosen paths. One day they to will be great! Maybe you already do some of the things outlined above, then great.
