It Ain't About Getting All You Want...Hank & Jan Wilhelm

Hi Everybody!
Here's hoping that we are continuing with the whole "Huh?!" theme of getting the most out of our time on this beautiful blue marble. I have been juggling several worthwhile pursuits recently (some of which will be revealed to you all very soon, thanks to my agent Pete over at brandlicensingexpert.com- THE BEST!).

As many people are aware, I have always been a huge pop culture buff. From comic books to music to movies, if anyone wanted to know anything, I am the guy to ask. I was recently talking to a friend of mine about movies when the subject of the inordinate amount of "reboots" came up. From British spies to wall climbing heroes to people who trek the stars, studios have all decided to retreat to the original source material in order to seek out fresh and exciting new directions.

This trend could also be used in the area of life management. Consider: daily living has become more and more complicated, with greater responsibilities added as society becomes more competitive. In much the same way that objects whiz by the windows of speeding cars as indistinguishable blurs, simple pleasures can be missed on the way to imagined greater rewards.

I have met many people in my life, some successful, some less so. One very interesting point that I have seen is the aftermath of people who were so focused on their destination that they paid absolutely no attention to the beauty of their journey. For example, imagine that you spend their whole life trying to become an accountant, ignoring friends, dates, family, and special events. Study, study, study. Work, work, work. After becoming that businessman, you then realize that you hate the job. The very next logical thought is of all the things that you might have missed out on while you were trying to become that businessman. This resentment and disillusionment might even be the catalyst for a long spiral of depression and self-destructive behavior, all of which might have been avoided if you stopped every once in a while to enjoy your life and the beautiful things in it (Find some balance, folks!).

This is just an example (the profession could have been any profession or undertaking), and some people may be able to adapt to their unsatisfying situation. It just makes more sense that one must learn to appreciate the less exotic experiences as he or she reaches for the fruit at the top of the tree. Thanks for visiting, enjoy the following article written by Jan Wilhelm, and please check out the whole Huh?! Blog site. (the videos are great!). Now, work hard, work smart, follow your heart, and squeeze in as much fun as you can!

Enjoy The Simple Things
By: Jan Wilhelm | Posted: Sep 18, 2005
Always having been a budget conscious person (well, some have called me a tight-wad), I know all about the simple pleasures. Sure it would be great to take long cruises, go to any event I wanted, buy anything I wanted --- WAKE UP! Unless you are a multi-millionaire, you can't do all that. It definitely doesn't fit in my budget.

Instead of being negative because you are "deprived", think of what you can do. Take a walk on a bright, sunny day. Notice the flowers. Notice the trees. Don't just notice the other walkers. SMILE and say "hi" to them. Enjoy the benefits of exercise. You will feel better. It will help you get in better shape. Get out there and move. And, guess what, it doesn't cost anything. It is absolutely FREE.

Here is another very rewarding thing to do. Volunteer at a child's school. Offer to tutor a neighborhood child. There is nothing like the pleasure that comes from teaching a child. Other places to help out kids are: Boys and Girls Club, any programs for troubled youth, any youth recreational leagues. If you have a special talent (art, singing, writing) ask at the local middle and high school if there is any way you can help. Help the kids. Doesn't cost you anything, but how rewarding it is!

At the other end of the age range are senior citizens. Many can certainly benefit from more attention. Many assisted living facilities will allow volunteers to come in. You don't need any special abilities....except the ability to listen. Having someone to talk to can be the highlight of their day. I hope this short article will make you stop and think. Don't be negative because you cannot have all the things you want. Enjoy life! Share with Others. Help Others. You will be rewarded.
